Suet is the raw, hard fat found around the kidneys and loins of grass-fed cattle. Sourcing the Suet
We partner with Minnesota family farms committed to grass-fed, sustainable practices. The suet arrives fresh, ensuring the highest quality for our tallow. This local connection is at the heart of our company story, celebrating Minnesota Pride in every jar. -
Preparation
The suet is cleaned and trimmed to remove any non-fat tissue. We keep it simple – no chemicals, no shortcuts. The suet is then chopped into small pieces to ensure even melting and maximum purity. -
Slow Rendering
The chopped suet is placed in a slow cooker over low heat. This gentle process allows the fat to melt slowly, separating the liquid tallow from solid impurities (known as cracklings). Low heat preserves the tallow’s natural qualities, ensuring a clean, smooth result. -
Straining for Purity
Once melted, the liquid tallow is strained through cheesecloth to remove any remaining solids. The result? A golden, pure tallow that’s ready for traditional uses or crafting, free from additives. -
